Rochester, MI- The new era of Oakland ACHA DI Hockey, led by new head coach Nick Field officially begins on Friday, September 28th as Oakland starts a new season against Duquesne at the ONYX Ice Arena.
"It's going to be a completely different atmosphere with the coaching change, but I have confidence in the new staff. They have proven themselves in other programs and I expect them to make a positive impact for the Oakland University Ice Hockey organization." Defenseman Nate Richards stated, when asked how things are going under the new coaching staff so far.
The Golden Grizzlies begin the new season with a six game homestand, which also includes first time series against both the 2018 ECHA Playoff Champion Drexel Dragons and the Missouri State University Ice Bears.
The Jug series against Rochester College is back to a four game series, with the traditional matchup before Halloween starting on Friday, October 26th at ONYX, with Oakland looking to keep the Jug for a second straight season.
Another rivalry series, features the Good Luck Duck against the Davenport Panthers, the series is two games starting at the ONYX on Friday, November 9th.
This year Oakland has two non-conference road trips to New York,including series at Oswego State and at Niagara, both in the first semester.
The Golden Grizzlies will conclude the first semester with a series against the Illinois State Redbirds starting on Friday, November 30th at the ONYX.
The second semester begins on Friday January 11th, with a two game series at the ONYX against Slippery Rock. Oakland will play the defending National Champion Adrian Bulldogs in a home and home series on Thursday January 17th at Adrian and Friday January 18th at the ONYX.
Oakland finishes the regular season with a GLCHL Conference home and home series against Western Michigan starting on Friday, February 22nd at the ONYX.
This season, the GLCHL playoffs will be hosted by Adrian College starting on March 8th.
