Rochester, MI The Oakland University Men's ACHA Division I team traveled to the #1 team in the nation, the University of Illinois over the weekend and continued their early season struggles losing 6-0 on Friday and 12-3 on Saturday. The two losses bring OU's record to 0-3-1 on the season. The 12 goals on Saturday is the most an Oakland team has ever given up to an ACHA opponent.
"We are just not getting sticks and bodies to the net offensively and defensively we are not blocking shots, getting opponent's sticks, or clearing the net front," stated Head Coach Sean Hogan.
Friday night Collin Chase started in net for OU. On Saturday, OU for the third time in four ACHA games, used two goalies. Freshman Alex Pikunas earned the start but left the game after the first 20 minutes in favor of senior Andrew Stewart.
Captain Cody Austin stated "Right now I am embarssed, the coaches are embarassed and everyone in the dressing room is embarassed. The only thing we can do is come out Monday morning ready to work hard and ready to get back on track by getting in the win column against Liberty."
Next Up: The schedule will not let up as OU will again hit the road, this time to Lynchburg, VA to take on #4 Liberty University on Friday and Saturday.
News, Notes and Quotes: Jesse Worrell scored his first two goals on the season against Illinois on Saturday night..."There is no quit in this team and I have no doubt we can right the ship. It will take hard work, focused effort and a great deal of teaching but we have the talent in the room to get it done."
